AGENDA
Diane Binckley, Deputy Director, City Planning & Development Department, will speak on a new ordinance in relation to short-term rentals in Kansas City. This is sometimes called the “bnb” ordinance (bed and breakfast) and will include single family residential areas.
If approved by the City Council, it will allow homeowners to rent out their house to outsiders who need to be here for a week-end or several days. Your homes can be used for tourists instead of people living in our area. What will this do to the quality of life in your neighborhood?. Will homes association by-laws be honored? Why is this ordinance necessary? Who will be in control? Could we have quasi-hotels in our neighborhoods? Are we putting a business in our neighborhood?
Tim Henry, President of Birchwood Homes Assn, will be present to provide his comments. He has studied this ordinance, has attended some of the preliminary meetings and has grave concerns about it.
It is very important for homes association and neighborhood leaders to be at this meeting.
This proposed ordinance will go in front of the Planning, Zoning, and Economic Development Committee on Wednesday, October 4th at 1:30pm on the 26th floor of City Hall. Scott Taylor, 6th District City Councilman is Chair of the Committee.

I highly recommend watching the Ted Talks video dated 3/14/2016 by Joe Gebbia, a AirBnB co-founder – 16 minutes of very interesting information – there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding about this sharing service of the future. Best regards.
