Updates and Announcements

The digital billboard ordinance was scheduled to go before the Neighborhood, Planning and Development Committee of the Council at City Hall on October 23rd but was postponed with no date set. This ordinance will remove the digital ban on billboards from the strong billboard ordinance of 2007 which many of us have worked for and supported. Our organization, Southern Communities Coalition, South Kansas City Alliance, and the Kansas City Neighborhood and Advisory Council are opposed to the ordinance. We have asked our City Council to deny the ordinance.

The proposed used car lot at 701 E. Bannister Rd (SE corner at Holmes Rd.) has been approved for a 2 year Special Use Permit. Earlier the BZA (Board of Zoning Adjustment) unanimously voted for denial, but the applicant asked for a re-hearing and the BZA reversed their decision on a 4 to 1 vote. We have been concerned about this corner for some time. If you are concerned about the appearance or any other aspect, call 311 to report the condition.
