Southern Communities Coalition Meeting – July 13, 2016

The Southern Communities Coalition meeting concerning the proposed Woodbridge Manor development was well attended by nearly 100 people. The developer, Mr. Sami Shoubaki, and the engineer, Mr. Dan Foster, presented the proposed development of 153 new homes and answered questions. Lou Austin discussed the need for a trail easement through the property. Nathan Powell, President of Southern Hills Homes Association, discussed the need for “quality development” and proceeded to ask questions concerning the density, timeline of development, financing, market need, traffic, and price of new homes. The majority of the audience were very skeptical of the viability of this development. The starting price of $179,000 compares to current prices of homes in the area with bigger lots and more square footage of $110,000 to $130,000.

Also attending the meeting was Kevin McManus, 6th District City Councilman. As he lives in the “quality development” of Verona Hills, the surrounding neighborhoods hope he understands their concerns regarding this particular development.

The next step is for the developer to go before the City Plan Commission next Tuesday, July 19th at 9:00am at City Hall.

This was a special-called meeting for Southern Communities Coalition, which generally does not meet during the summer; so a big thanks needs to be extended to Co-Chairman Carol McClure for keeping the neighborhoods informed on this important issue and offering them the chance to ask questions of the developer.
